INTRODUCTION THIS Dictionary is based on the smaller Oxford edition of the Vulgate New Testament, which was published in 1911.1 Founded as that edition is on the oldest and best manuscripts of the Vulgate, used in accordance with the methods and results of modern textual criticism, its text differs materially as to vocabulary and still more as to orthography from the received text of the Vulgate New Testament, which is that of the edition2 published at the end of the sixteenth century by Pope
